Award-winning Swede nabs second US LPGA win of the year after victory in Turkey
Anna Nordqvist on Friday earned a berth in the next International Women’s tour in North Carolina next year by winning the Saudi Ladies International event in the kingdom.
The first round winner carded a two-under-par 70 for a six-under total of 210, one clear of Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn who posted 71 in the second round.
Nordqvist, 26, has an MVP award and multiple European Tour and Solheim Cup titles to her name, and had secured a US LPGA victory of the year earlier this year. The Swedish star won twice on the European Tour in 2018, and also won the LPGA’s Jamie Farr Toledo Classic this year.
“I’m so happy with this win,” Nordqvist said. “I never thought I would have a chance to win in this tournament and now I’m in the field at the stop I thought I wouldn’t be in.
“I thought I was going to miss it this year, but the tournament committee heard what I had to say and decided to grant me this spot.
“I can’t put into words how much this means to me. Especially after doing the tour all around the world I feel a lot of appreciation from the different continents and this is probably the biggest tournament on the tour.”
